Bowie High School’s employee of the month is Quentin Berend. Quentin is a great example of how our teachers at BHS understand the Team Bowie concept. Quentin is in charge of our course recovery program at Bowie High School and also coaches Football, Powerlifting, and Track. He does an excellent job communicating with parents about the progress of their child and an equally good job monitoring and motivating students who are at-risk. His coworkers say “Quentin rolls with the flow. He has been giving extra duties due to some unforeseen circumstances twice this year, with no complaints”. The administration at Bowie High School recognizes and appreciates Quentin’s positive attitude with the staff and students. His coworkers appreciate his teamwork approach and how he can be stern but retain calmness and fairness with students. Bowie High School is lucky to have Quentin Berend as part of their team.
Bowie High School’s student of the month is Michaela Vicari. Michaela was nominated by her teachers because she shows all of the characteristics of an EPIC student. She displays excellence academically and always has a positive attitude. She exemplifies integrity and compassion daily as she consistently finds ways to assist those in need. Her teachers say she is a great mentor to underclassmen. Michaela was chosen this year to be a student aide, helping teachers and students with whatever needs arise. Her teachers say “Michaela takes the initiative without waiting on someone to tell her. She goes above and beyond with her assistance. She is polite, pleasant, and a pleasure to have in that class”. Bowie High School is fortunate to have students like Michaela Vicari.
Ms. Gray is new to Bowie High School and has the stressful job of teaching Algebra I to Freshman. That alone should be reason enough for someone to with this award, but to Ms. Gray, it is a challenge that she happily accepts. While she does admit the Spring semester is a challenge because of the number of students involved in extracurricular activities at BHS, she continues to work hard and keeps a positive attitude. She comes to Bowie highly recommended and has quickly became a teacher with a great reputation of holding students accountable for learning. Anyone who goes into her class can easily see why she has a reputation for being a great teacher. She has an excellent rapport with her students and her willingness to come watch her students participate in their extracurricular activities on her own time shows how much her students mean to her. Bowie High School is a great place to go to school because of teachers like Lori Gray.
Lily Gill is a senior at Bowie High School and is involved in just about everything you can think of. She is one of those students who has an excellent attitude and is well liked by her graduating class as well as all of the underclassmen. Lily’s teachers describe her as a great student with the type of personality that all teachers love for their students to have. She is smart, outgoing, positive, and compassionate. It’s obvious that she is well liked and respected by all of Bowie High School because of being selected by our student body as Homecoming Queen and most recently as Prom Queen. Lily also impressed many of our community members on the Bowie Education Foundation as she applied for and won their scholarship which is the largest local scholarship given to a BHS graduate. Bowie High School is a great school because of students like Lily Gill.
